Ventilator
Ventilator
Project: Severance Season 2
The prop department requested a reimagined version of the Bird Mark 7 ventilator—one that honored the original’s iconic design while meeting the demands of modern production.
We joined the project midway, collaborating with fabricator Jade Goheen to streamline and enhance the fabrication process.
Materials: Aluminum, 3D printed resin, powder coated paint, stainless steel.
Process: Our work began with detailed CAD and 3D modeling of the ventilator and its mechanical components. The top surface of the base and the ventilator’s mounting shelf were milled from aluminum, while the signature green body was resin-printed and finished with custom paint to match the original aesthetic.

The Design Process
Severance Prop Master: Catherine Miller
Fabricator: Jade Goheen
When we were brought on to assist with fabrication, Severance Prop Master Catherine Miller and fabricator Jade Goheen had already finalized the design. Collaborating closely with them, we proposed using a combination of aluminum and 3D-printed resin to give the machine the industrial finish it deserved.
The final piece was constructed from a mix of freshly machined components, custom 3D-printed parts, and original elements salvaged from an authentic Bird Mark 7 ventilator.
The lower section of the ventilator contains a motor that drives the rubber diaphragm, simulating the machine’s original function.
The incredible art department on Severance did an outstanding job weathering the ventilator to match the tone and texture required for the scene.
